There has been an athletic field at the site since the 1870’s, with the stadium built at the turn of the century, around the same time the Spanish giants were being formed.
The original Lansdowne Park became Frank Clair Stadium in 1993, hosting numerous major events, including soccer matches for the 1976 Olympics, the 2007 U20 Men’s World Cup Canada, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. That event in 2015 took place not long after a massive renovation revitalized the aging structure into one of the country’s most attractive new venues.

The first sporting event was a soccer match which drew close to 15,000.
A modern block of apartments and commercial development to the west, provides an intimate, closed-in feel to the venue.
In a league that already boasts larger and relatively new stadiums in Winnipeg (Investors Group Field) and Hamilton (Tim Horton’s Field), TD Place becomes the Canadian Premier League’s 8th home; an appropriately sized venue for a club with big ambition.
Over the coming years, it will be exciting to see the club and its supporters build new traditions and culture together.
