Atlético Ottawa Signs Spanish Attacking Midfielder Alberto Soto on Loan

Ottawa, ON (June 22nd, 2021) – Atlético Ottawa announced today that Spanish Attacking Midfielder Alberto Soto has been signed on loan from Atlético de Madrid.

The 20-year-old joins Atlético Ottawa from the Atlético de Madrid B where he was recently on loan to Club de Fútbol La Nucía where he made 12 appearances in the 2020/21 season.

Soto has appeared in five matches Internationally for the Spanish U20 side scoring once.

“I am looking forward to playing in Canada in the top league in the country. Playing in Canada’s Capital is very special to me. I am grateful to be a part of this club and to continue my journey in the Atlético Family,” says Alberto Soto, Attacking Midfielder, Atlético Ottawa.

Alberto was born and raised in Málaga, Spain he has been in the Atlético de Madrid academy system since 2017.

“Alberto Soto is a very attack minded player, when the ball is at his feet, he has his eye on the goal. He can create chances and put the ball in the net. He will be a strong addition linking our midfield to our forwards. It is special to have another player from the Atlético de Madrid academy loaned to the club,” says Fernando Lopez, CEO, Atlético Ottawa.

To have someone who has been a Spanish youth international is very special for this league and our club. Alberto Soto is the 22nd player announced by Atlético Ottawa for the 2021 CPL season. He joins fellow Spaniards Rafael Núñez, Viti Martinez and Miguel Acosta as the fourth Spanish player on the roster. Drew Beckie, Shawn-Claud Lawson, Brian Wright, Teodor Obadal, Dylon Powley, Ryan Telfer, Zach Verhoven, Jordan Webb, Chris Mannella and Keesean Ferdinand have also been announced as new signings for Atlético Ottawa.

In addition, to already announced domestic re-signings Milovan Kapor, Antoine Coupland, Ben McKendry, Brandon John, Malcolm Shaw, and international players Viti Martinez, Bernardinho, Tevin Shaw and Vashon Neufville.
