Atlético Ottawa Sign Matthew Arnone

Atlético Ottawa announced on Saturday the addition of Canadian Matthew Arnone to its roster ahead of the club’s historic inaugural home match at TD Place on August 14th.

The 27-year-old Matthew Arnone should be familiar to Canadian Premier League fans, returning to the league with a third team in three years. He was part of the 2019 inaugural season as a member of the Halifax Wanderers, where he made 28 appearances, scoring twice and winning the Wanderers’ player of the year title as selected by their supporters. In 2020, Arnone returned to the York region where he played university soccer and dressed with York United. Having played in both the backline and midfield, Arnone will bring a great knowledge of the league demands with crafty ball handling to the Atléti squad.

Atlético Ottawa Head Coach Mista on the addition of Matthew and fellow Canadian Nyal Higgins:

“We’re excited to see Matthew and Nyal join us,” said Mista. “They bring character and depth that will help us for the rest of the season. With the injuries we’re facing and the difficult schedule, we are happy to count on more options to shape our team and bring results to our fans.”

Atlético Ottawa could see one or two of these new additions be added to Head Coach Mista’s match lineup when the club travels to Hamilton to face Forge FC on Sunday afternoon (KO 1PM ET, live on OneSoccer).
