Atlético Ottawa seals Gatineau-born defender Maxim Tissot extension until 2024

In another big move for Atlético Ottawa, experienced full-back Maxim Tissot has inked an extension with the club, committing to stay until the conclusion of the 2024 Canadian Premier League season. Tissot, a pivotal figure since joining in 2022, has featured in 47 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing four assists.

The 31-year-old has not only demonstrated his prowess on the field but has also proven to be a natural leader. Tissot was appointed one of the four club captains before the 2023 season, sporting the captain’s armband six times. His influence extends beyond the pitch, as he continues to inspire young talents in the region, making impactful visits to CS Aylmer and AS Gatineau as part of the Powered by Atlético Program.

“Extending with Atlético Ottawa means the world to me,” expressed Tissot. “As a local player, I carry immense pride in representing my hometown on the pitch. Last season had its challenges, but I’m determined to right those wrongs and contribute to our success in 2024. Being a leader is not just about the game; it’s about inspiring the next generation. I want to be a strong role model, not only within the squad but also for aspiring youth players in our region. There is nowhere else I want to continue my career but here, in Ottawa. Excited for the journey ahead.”

CEO Fernando López echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Tissot’s crucial role in the team’s success. “We are thrilled to secure Maxim Tissot’s contract extension with Atlético Ottawa. His leadership in the locker room and his experience on the field were crucial elements in our journey to clinch the club’s first title in 2022. Max not only brings exceptional talent to the field but also a deep connection to our local community and deepens our connection with the local francophone community as well. We are very excited to continue building on our success, and Max will be a key cornerstone in making that a reality.”

A product of the Impact Academy, Tissot’s professional journey began with the Montreal Impact (now CF Montréal) in 2013, where he contributed to back-to-back Canadian Championships in 2013 and 2014. Following stints in MLS and NASL, Tissot returned to his hometown club, Ottawa Fury, before joining Atlético Ottawa in 2022. His resilience and commitment to the sport are reflected in his journey, making him a valuable asset for the team and the community.

As Tissot recommits to the club, Atlético Ottawa looks forward to a future defined by success on the pitch and a positive impact in the community. The extension is not just about securing a talented player; it’s about fortifying the bonds that Atlético Ottawa shares with its fans and the broader region.
