Antoine Coupland strikes at home

In our last home match of the 2021 season, young attacking-mid Antoine Coupland scored his second of the season, but his first goal in front of a home crowd at TD Place. We took a few minutes to ask him about it post-match.

Q: This is your first goal out of the bubble and second of the season. What does it mean to you to have done it in front of a home crowd?
A: It’s always special to score goals and even more so in front of the home crowd. There support has always been heartfelt so it was nice to pay it back with a goal and a good performance.

Q: We heard some screams coming from the crowd when you scored. Were your friends / family at TD Place watching the match?
A: Yes, over 40 friends and family were in attendance to the game screaming and cheering.

Q: What does it mean to your family to have seen you score one at home?
A: They were very happy for me as they have been there supporting me through the ups and downs of the season. To my immediate family, TD Place feels like a second home.

Q: As one of the youngest on the team – how did the other players react to your goal?
A: My teammates believe in me and were genuinely happy to see my progression throughout the season rewarded with a goal.

Q: What do you feel you still need to work on going forward? (next season)
A: I still need to work on my mental strength. Also, with more game experience, I feel I will become more tactically sound.

We’re sure the Atleti family wants to see Antoine take the pitch and put away another goal as we take on the HFX Wanderers on Nov 7th at 1pm!
