Owner’s Profile

Atlético Madrid is a globally recognized club, with a decorated past, and now, an ambitious future.

Aspiration can be defined in many ways…including looking beyond your own borders and extending your beliefs and values into new cities and cultures.

The owners of Atlético Ottawa have accomplished both, just in the last few years, while also maintaining their reputation as fierce competitors in LaLiga and the various European Cup competitions.

No matter how you look at it, Atlético is not resting on past glories or old conventions.  It is a club that values advancement and calculated risk both on and off the pitch.

Having already expanded their brand and philosophy to Mexico with Atlético San Luis, the Madrid club was rewarded just 2 years after the take-over with promotion to Mexico’s top flight, Liga MX.

Now the Spanish Giants are excited to bring their values and club philosophy to another nation, in the form of the Capital’s new Canadian Premier League team.

Supporters in the Ottawa region couldn’t have asked for a more qualified ownership group to begin the process of creating history at TD Place.

Atlético de Madrid and Ottawa, Canada teaming up with the Canadian Premier League feels like a perfect fit.  Bringing in Jeff Hunt as a strategic partner adds local expertise to complete the story.

Like the famous club, the Newfoundland born, Ottawa transplanted executive has a track record of rolling up his sleeves, never giving up, and doing so with humility and hard work.  His carpet cleaning business began in 1984, and expanded to 250 locations in just 13 years, before delving into sports entrepreneurship as owner the 67’s junior hockey team.

Hunt spearheaded the drive to bring CFL football back to the Capital, which saw not only the transformation of Lansdowne Park to TD Place, but also the arrival of the Ottawa Redblacks; a club successful both on and off the field.

Now Jeff Hunt is relishing the opportunity to work in conjunction with Atlético de Madrid, to bring their values and philosophy to the Nation’s Capital with Atlético Ottawa.
