Atlético Ottawa’s Carlos González named CPL Manager of the Month

Head Coach Carlos González has been named Canadian Premier League (CPL) Manager of the Month for July as Atlético Ottawa claimed the table and firmly established the team back amongst the playoff candidates.

Atlético Ottawa won four out of five games in July (only dropping points in a tight game away to Halifax Wanderers), scoring eight goals and only conceding two. Ottawa now sits fifth in the CPL table, just five points off Pacific FC in the top spot.

“I am happy for the streak that the team is on, it’s a recognition of the great level of work the team has given in the last month,” said González. “The strength of the wolf is the pack, as they say, and this Manager of the Month accolade is about that. I’m a privileged coach, I have great players, I work in a great club that gives me many tools and I have the support of a great staff that makes me better every day and this award is a recognition of that .”

With 11 regular season games left in the 2023 season, Atlético Ottawa remains in a prime position to defend its regular-season title from 2022. This first piece of silverware in the CPL era was used as a platform to propel the team to the final of the playoffs series as well.

Ottawa is back in action this weekend against York United at TD Place (KO 7 pm ET, live on OneSoccer) in a match celebrating Latino culture and the Atleti Families’ global connections, including sister clubs Atlético de Madrid and Atlético de San Luis.
