Atlético Ottawa Welcomes Petawawa Minor Soccer Club to Powered By Program

We are excited to announce that Petawawa Minor Soccer Club has become a part of Atlético Ottawa’s Powered By Program, further strengthening our commitment to grassroots soccer development throughout the province of Ontario.

Established in 1999, Petawawa Minor Soccer Club has been instrumental in providing soccer opportunities to over 800 athletes of all ages and skill levels – from grassroots recreational to competitive sides. Based in Petawawa, Ontario, the club has been dedicated to fostering a sense of community and promoting the growth of players and coaches, while encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle, striving to keep individuals engaged throughout the year with summer and winter programming. These values align perfectly with Atlético Ottawa’s mission of community engagement, growth, and inclusivity.

Expressing his delight, Craig LeMoine of Petawawa Minor Soccer Club emphasized the exciting opportunities presented by joining the Powered By Clubs Program for soccer enthusiasts in Petawawa and the surrounding areas. “In a word, excited! The opportunity to not only to become affiliated with Atlético Ottawa and Canadian Professional Soccer, but also connected with the storied Atlético de Madrid has created lots of enthusiasm among the PMSC executive.

“We are a smaller, volunteer ran organization that is trying to grow the sport in a hockey-dominated region. Partnering with a club such as Atlético Ottawa will provide us with some new opportunities to learn and develop the skills needed to continue to grow our club, and to help provide quality coaching to our athletes. It’s amazing to be able to say that we are now a small part of Atlético Ottawa and Canadian Professional Soccer. Hopefully, some of our players can now dream that, with a lot of hard work, and a little luck, maybe one day they’ll be the player from PMSC who gets to don the red and white!”

By joining the Powered By Clubs Program, Petawawa Minor Soccer Club will gain access to Atlético Ottawa’s extensive network, providing additional resources and expertise to support their growth and development. This partnership will also create opportunities for players to showcase their abilities in front of professional coaches, potentially opening doors for higher levels of competition.

CEO Fernando López expressed his excitement at the expansion of the Powered By Program, as Petawawa becomes the club the furthest away from the capital to become affiliated with Atlético Ottawa. López recognized the program’s ability to connect neighbouring communities and provide aspiring soccer players with access to high-level training: “Today marks another exciting milestone for our club, as we expand our reach and commitment to growing the game of soccer beyond the capital region. Atlético is devoted to growing and helping shape the soccer community and culture throughout the province and we are excited to work with Petawawa Minor Soccer Club to help us reach that goal.”

The Powered By Atlético Ottawa program, a collaboration between Atlético Ottawa, Atlético de Madrid, and the Canadian Premier League, currently supports multiple local soccer clubs across the region, including Ottawa South United, Ottawa City Soccer Club, Ottawa Gloucester Hornets, Gloucester Dragons, Russell Soccer Club, St. Anthony SC, Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club, CS Aylmer, FC Petite Nation, Association de Soccer de Gatineau, Seaway Valley Soccer Club and now Petawawa Minor Soccer Club.
