All good things must come to an end. The 2024 campaign saw a marked improvement over the previous year in the standings. We experienced success on and off the pitch. It didn’t end exactly the way we planned it, but we will regroup and focus on a productive off season heading into 2025.
On November 5th, we heard from Head Coach Carlos Gonzalèz and many players who were instrumental in the success on the pitch. Here are som highlights of the 2024 Atlético Ottawa End of Season Press Conference.
Ollie Bassett reflected on his time in Ottawa, all the amazing and memorable moments he’s had since landing in Ottawa. “When I first came here, I was just hoping to play as many minutes and games as possible. Being the all-time appearances leader, it feels nice. It’s something I’m super proud of. I love playing here” – Ollie Bassett
We heard from Barrhaven’s own Matteo de Brienne who expressed his gratitude to have played at home in front of friends, family and fans “Playing for my hometown team, it’s a dream that I’ve made come true.” – Matteo de Brienne
It was Manuel Aparicio’s first year in Ottawa and he talked about how he truly has never played for a fan base quite like Atleti’s loud and proud supporters. “I truly think we have the best fans in the league.” – Manu Aparicio
U21 player Tyr Walker had an absolute break-out season and he spoke about how it has been such an honour to share this journey with the loved ones who have watched him grow in his soccer career. “All my life, I’ve had my parents watch me play. The fact I’m able to play at this level and still have them there, it’s an amazing feeling.” – Tyr
All state Nate took the stage and spoke about the accomplishments they have had this year and gives us word that this next season is going to be just as memorable. “Winning as a group, is more important than any individual success.” – Nate Ingham
