Atlético Ottawa continued to brave the spring showers as over 4,500+ supporters filled the stands at TD Place for the ‘Pay What You Can’ match, presented by Atleti Equal Access. The 2024 new-look Ottawa team continues to find its feet and build chemistry as last year’s runaway CPL regular season winner, Cavalry FC, benefited from a late own goal to salvage a point at TD Place.
KEY MOMENTS
- Atlético Ottawa was moments away from making it back-to-back wins to start the season, but Cavalry FC found a late equalizer as the match ended 1-1.
- Atlético opened the scoring moments into the second half (47′) as new signing Amer Didić rose highest to head home Ollie Bassett’s corner kick.
- Maxim Tissot hit the post in the final few minutes of the match (88′).
- Cavalry found a late equalizer (90′) as Ottawa defender Kris Twardek turned a cross into the back of his own net under pressure in the box.
- Central defender Amer Didić led from the back, as well as providing an aerial threat during set pieces in the attacking phase.
- Didić led in aerial duels (7), total passes (55) and interceptions (3).
- This was Atlético Ottawa’s 100th competitive match (all competitions).
- Local defender, Tyr Walker (of Russell, ON) made his home debut coming on in the 82nd minute.
