We are excited to announce that Quinte West Soccer Club has become a part of Atlético Ottawa’s Powered By Program. This marks an important milestone as this becomes the first partnership with a club within the Southeast Ontario Soccer Association (SOSA).
Quinte West Soccer Club, of Trenton (ON), was originally established in the 1970s as “Trenton Minor Soccer” before being renamed to Quinte West SC in 1998. Their club values of respect, passion, teamwork and enjoyment echo the lasting footprint Atlético aims to leave on the soccer community in Ottawa, and beyond.
With close to 1,500 youth players set to take part in the summer curriculum this year, Quinte West SC is supported by over 120 coaches and dozens of volunteers to help run teams, leagues and tournaments throughout various age groups. Players ranging between two and 18 years old compete in recreational leagues, while competitive formats are offered to children over the age of 10 in both SOSA and Durham Region Soccer League (DRSL).
“We were excited to have a chance to build a partnership with one of the top soccer clubs in the world. It is a fantastic opportunity for our club,” said Kelly Scott, President of Quinte West S.C. “Our membership continues to grow and we are excited that our youth players can feel part of something bigger than local soccer. They will have a connection and can support Atlético Ottawa and the Canadian Premier League.”
Steve Whitehead, Club Head Coach at Quinte West SC added: “We feel our club members will really benefit from this partnership. There is a clear player pathway with the potential to be recognized by Atlético de Madrid of Spain and Atlético Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League. QWSC coaches will have resources to assist them in their coaching development and this knowledge will be passed on to our players.”
By joining the Powered By Clubs Program, Quinte West SC will gain access to Atlético Ottawa’s extensive network, providing additional resources and expertise to support their growth and development. This partnership will also create opportunities for players to showcase their abilities in front of professional coaches, potentially opening doors for higher levels of competition.
CEO Fernando López expressed his excitement at the expansion of the Powered By Program, as Quinte West SC becomes the first Powered By Club from SOSA to become affiliated with Atlético Ottawa. López recognized the program’s ability to connect neighbouring communities and provide aspiring soccer players with access to high-level training: “Today marks a new and exciting chapter in our club’s journey, as we broaden our horizons and deepen our dedication to fostering soccer’s growth beyond the confines of the capital region yet again. Atlético remains steadfast in our mission to nurture and influence the soccer community and its culture across the province. Collaborating with Quinte West SC fills us with more hope for the future as we strive towards achieving this shared objective. We look forward to formally welcoming their players, coaches and volunteers at our matches this season.”
The Powered By Atlético Ottawa program, a collaboration between Atlético Ottawa, Atlético de Madrid, and the Canadian Premier League, currently supports multiple local soccer clubs across the region, including Ottawa South United, Ottawa City Soccer Club, Ottawa Gloucester Hornets, Gloucester Dragons, Russell Soccer Club, St. Anthony SC, Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club, CS Aylmer, FC Petite Nation, Association de Soccer de Gatineau, Seaway Valley Soccer Club, Petawawa Minor Soccer Club and now Quinte West SC.
