Looking Back: 2023 Atleti Moments 👀

As we countdown to 2024, let’s take a look at some of our favourite moments from the 2023 season:

The 2023 season started with our annual “Pay What You Can Home Opener” tradition. This year we were able to partner with CHEO Hospital and the incredible Lily Millett to raise funds to purchase new medical equipment for CHEO. With over 7000 people in attendance at our home opener, a portion of each ticket sold went towards Lily Millett’s “Lil Kidney’s” program. Together with the Atleti Family, our efforts were recognized by the Canadian Premier League, as we were awarded the ‘Community Impact Award’.

It’s not hard to find 50 rabid and loyal Atleti fans to fill up a bus and bring the noise to York! Our season seat members were given the opportunity to take a trip down the 401 to cheer on the boys in red & white as they got their first-ever #CanChamp win against Halifax.

What was more than a year in the making in partnership with Shelter Movers Ottawa, we were finally able to show to the world our amazing “Making It To Safety” jersey. A portion of each jersey sold went towards  Shelter Movers Ottawa and helping people fleeing Intimate Partner Violence. To finally see these jerseys in action and on the pitch was a surreal moment.

Theme games are always a blast, and our “90’s Night” match was a perfect way to usher in the start of summer.

Being that we are are a MASSIVE club, it was only right that we made the biggest player-signing in league history (again). After an illustrious career in Europe, playing in some of the best leagues in the world, we were extremely excited to welcome Alberto Zapater to Canada.

In the spirit of “Toonie Hot-Dog Night”, a few Capital City Supporters joined CTV Morning Live and scarfed down some hot dogs for breakfast. This was once again another example of why we have the best fans in the league.

Our first-ever “La Fiesta Night” was quite the wild party and my personal favourite. The crowd’s energy that night was electric, and the arena erupted when Carl Haworth nailed a free kick goal and Diego Espejo also flew in for a header.

Alongside the Capital City Supporters Group, we were able to take Wally the inflatable and bring Wally The T-Rex to life.

Do you know how many people told me “This is the best goal I’ve ever seen live.”?! A lot. A lot of people told me that, and I have to agree with them. This Luke Singh volley and the scenes that followed were something out of  a movie.

After announcing his upcoming retirement at the end of the season, the city gave a proper send off for Ottawa soccer legend Carl Haworth when he played his final home game at TD Place. The Atleti Family showed up in numbers as we broke the record for the most single match tickets sold with an attendance of 7044 people at TD place.

Despite the shortcomings on the pitch, 2023 marked another year or substantial growth for Atlético Ottawa. Whether it was in attendance, community reach, or online presence, the strides the club took was acknowledged by the league as we were named “Club Of The Year” by the Canadian Premier League.

We’re inching closer towards 2024, and we are looking forward to a great 2024 with the Atleti Family. Join us in 2024, and experience the best live atmosphere in Ottawa sports. Click HERE for more information on season seat memberships.
