Everything you need to know about Saturday’s match vs HFX (7pm at TD Place)

Atlético Ottawa host Halifax Wanderers FC for the second and final time at TD place this season during the club’s much anticipated “90s Night” (KO 7 pm ET, Live on OneSoccer). Neither side will be content with a stalemate as Atlético hunts for its first home win of the season, whilst Halifax is yet to win a match under the guidance of its new manager whilst producing positive performances.

Here’s everything you need to know before Saturday’s 90s Night at TD Place.

  • Despite a much-improved performance last weekend, Atlético Ottawa remains in search of its first home win of the 2023 Canadian Premier League season.
    • Atlético is currently in 8th place on five (5) points.
      • The standings remain finely balanced with Atleti trailing 4th place by only three (3) points.
    • Halifax Wanderers are in 7th place with six (6) points.
  • Head Coach Carlos González’s team produced their “best performance of the season” last week although they couldn’t best Trsiton Henry in the Forge FC goal.
    • Henry made a personal best, and league-high, eight (8) saves to deny Atleti.

  • Ottawa and Halifax have already met twice this season in all competitions (1W-1D-0L).
    • The 2023 Home Opener at TD Place ended in a tight 1-1 draw, with Atlético defender Karl Ouimette controversially denied a penalty late in the match after Ollie Bassett had tied the game with a first-half strike.
    • Three days later the two sides met once more in the Canadian Championship preliminary round with Ottawa running out 3-1 winners.
      • Goals from Malcolm Shaw, Diego Espejo and Maxim Tissot saw Atleti come from behind to win its first game in the competition.
      • Shaw is Ottawa’s top scorer in this fixture (4 goals) whilst Tissot and recent signing from Halifax, Samuel Salter, both have three goals each.
  • Halifax Wanderers are still seeking their first victory under new Head Coach Patrice Gheisar (0W-6D-1L).
  • Both sides encourage those attending, if they can, to consider donating to the Red Cross Atlantic Canada: Wildfire Response. 
    • Over 200 structures are estimated to have been damaged by the wildfires so far.
