CLUB STATEMENT: Object Throwing Incident

Due to the unfortunate object-throwing incident that occurred during a recent home match on May 27, 2023, we would like to reiterate that our club maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any individual(s) who throw(s) object(s) onto the field.

This incident directly violates the attendance policy set by TD Place, the joint Code of Conduct agreed upon by our official supporters’ groups, as well as those agreed to by our club and the Canadian Premier League. Our club takes such incidents very seriously.

As part of our supporter Code of Conduct, we immediately launched a thorough investigation in collaboration with our official supporters’ groups and appropriate relevant authorities. Atlético Ottawa remains committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of the game, its players, fans as well as all attendees and participants during match day.

Although not all attendees in the Supporters Section (Section W) are members of our official supporters’ groups, the individual responsible for this unacceptable behaviour was identified and was found to be a member of one of the groups. The individual came forward with an admission of guilt on their own accord and issued a sincere apology to all those affected and we believe the individual has shown remorse for their actions.

As part of the club’s disciplinary measures, the individual responsible for the incident was suspended from attending the following match at TD Place on June 3, 2023.

Thankfully no one was harmed during this incident and we continue to work closely with our supporters’ group(s) and take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Atlético Ottawa is steadfast in our commitment to fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for all fans, players, and staff.
