The Official Draw for the 2022 Canadian Championship was held Wednesday evening, broadcast live on OneSoccer, and saw Atlético Ottawa awarded a first-round match at home at TD Place against provincial rival York United FC.
The 13 clubs were drawn from four different pots, based on last year’s results, club provenance, and geography, to assign knock-out matches to be played across the First Round (10 clubs), the Quarterfinals (eight clubs), the Semifinals (four clubs), and the Final (two clubs) between May and July 2022.
Drawn first from pot B, Atlético Ottawa will look to leverage home-field advantage in that first round when it hosts York United FC in a single-elimination format. Atlético Ottawa, with a win, would move on to a quarterfinal match against Pacific FC.
While the specific match dates of the 2022 Canadian Championship are not yet known, the First Round will be scheduled from May 10-12, the Quarterfinals from May 24-26, the Semifinals from June 21-23, and the Final will be scheduled in July. Further details on tickets will be announced as soon as they are available.
Canada Soccer’s Canadian Championship, also known as the Battle of the North, is the nation’s highest men’s domestic competition featuring clubs from across the country, notably professional teams in Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League as well as league winners in both League1 Ontario and Québec’s Première ligue de soccer du Québec. Winners of the 2022 Canadian Championship lift the Voyageurs Cup and qualify to the annual international competition, Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. Winners of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League then qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup.
