Atlético Ottawa has secured the return of Ottawa native Matteo de Brienne, signing the 21-year-old to a one-year deal with an option to extend through 2025. De Brienne, named the 2023 Canadian Premier League under-21 ‘Player of the Year,’ brings his impressive track record and versatility to the squad.

A product of École secondaire catholique Pierre-Savard and Ottawa South United (OSU), De Brienne’s journey took him to the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy before joining Atlético Ottawa’s inaugural squad in 2020. His standout performances at Carleton University and a successful stint with Valour FC in 2022 solidified his reputation.

Last season, with Valour FC, De Brienne notched three goals, three assists, and 40 interceptions in just 20 appearances, earning him the title of best under-21 player. Head Coach Carlos González expressed delight in securing a player with local roots, highlighting De Brienne’s competitive spirit and dynamic playing style.
