Atletico Ottawa re-sign goalkeeper Nathan Ingham

Atlético Ottawa today announced the club has re-signed Nathan Ingham to a new contract that will keep the Canadian goalkeeper in the nation’s capital through the 2025 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season.

“Re-signing Nate was a priority for us this off-season, so I am thrilled to be announcing his return,” said Fernando Lopez, CEO, Atlético Ottawa.

“When Nate first arrived in Ottawa, I said he fit our club’s values and style very well because of his pure shot stopping ability, how aggressively he plays for every ball and the great character he shows on and off the field. Nate has proven all of that and more since joining our club, which is why it was imperative we brought him back for another two years.”

Ingham, 30, signed with Atlético Ottawa in January 2022, ahead of the club’s third season in the CPL. The native of Keswick, ON had already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the CPL prior to his arrival, playing 62 matches and engineering 17 clean sheets for York United FC over the league’s first three seasons. He was rewarded with a CPL Golden Glove nomination, awarded to CPL goalkeeper voted best at his position, in 2019.

He has continued to prove himself over two seasons as Atlético Ottawa No. 1 goalkeeper. Ingham earned his second Golden Glove nomination in October 2022 as a crucial part of the defensive backbone that propelled Atlético Ottawa to a regular season title and a place in the 2022 CPL Final. He finished the year with a league-high 75 saves made and posted nine clean sheets.

Despite struggling with a hand injury early in 2023 that kept Ingham out of the fold for six regular season games, he finished tied for third among CPL goalkeepers with seven clean sheets this past season.

“Nate is an important part of our team and it was crucial we brought him back this season,” said Carlos Gonzalez, Head Coach, Atlético Ottawa. “He is an important voice on the field and put up some of his best performances following his return from injury. I look forward to seeing the impact he will continue to have on this team next season and beyond.”

Ingham has continuously been a leader off the field for Atlético Ottawa since his arrival at the club, and his influence was rewarded in April 2023 when he was named to the team’s captain group in 2023, alongside Carl Haworth, Maxim Tissot and Miguel Acosta.

“For me I had to come back, it’s the only club I want to play for in this country. I’ve been so fortunate to wind up here and it’s felt like home on and off the field. I feel part of the community, and the club. When I speak to Fernando, we have the same vision of what these next two years are gonna look like. We have every intention of winning.”
