Atlético Ottawa fans ‘a big reason’ for Noah Verhoeven’s move to the capital

Noah Verhoeven revealed that Atlético Ottawa’s incredible home support was a big appeal to him when deciding to swap York United for the Canadian capital.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined Atlético Ottawa on a two-year deal ahead of the 2023 season and is already excited to play in front of a packed TD Place. “Every time we played here, one of the first things you notice is the fans,” said Verhoeven. “The fans are really loud and we saw the attendance in the final it was one of the highest attendances [in league history]. They are a big pull as a player and that was a big reason for me coming here.”

After two years at York United, Verhoeven was open to exploring a new opportunity and the chance to work under Head Coach Carlos González was already very appealing before being sold on the project.  “After I spoke with Fernando [López] my decision was very clear,” he said. “He laid out a plan and I saw where I could fit into this team and this club. I am a possession-based player, I excel at breaking the lines and being calm on the ball, giving my team a moment to relax. I think that’s something I can bring here and help the squad with.”

A self-described technical player that relishes taking responsibility and working hard for his teammates, Verhoeven is the second player to join Atlético Ottawa ahead of the new campaign, following the signing of Canadian defender Karl Ouimette.
