The Gatorade Team of the Week for the eighth week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and Oliver Platt.

TOTW 2024 — Week 8

Goalkeeper

Jonathan Viscosi (Valour FC)

Viscosi was outstanding in Valour’s home opener on Sunday, making four saves to keep his first CPL clean sheet, and the club’s first shutout of the season. That included a crucial early stop on Miki Cantave to keep the match level in the first half.

Defenders

Zachary Fernandez (Halifax Wanderers) 

The Wanderers fullback was a constant threat on Sunday in the nation’s capital, creating two chances and completing 45 of his 48 passes. He also made two tackles and three interceptions during a lively match down the right flank.

Tass Mourdoukoutas (Valour FC) 

The Aussie’s return to the Valour lineup has been a game-changer for the club defensively. He put in another strong shift in the team’s home opener, making six clearances. He also completed a team-leading 42 passes.

Juan Quintana (Pacific FC) 

With Aly Ndom out for the season through injury, the 20-year-old Quintana has stepped up and been an incredibly strong replacement. The Colombian won 14 of 19 duels on Saturday, including seven of ten in the air. He also made three tackles, and seven clearances.

Daniel Parra (Forge FC) 

Parra scored his first Canadian Premier League goal to complete the scoring in a 3-0 victory over York United on Saturday. He also put in a strong defensive shift, winning eight of 13 duels contested, and making two tackles.

Midfielders

Riley Ferrazzo (Halifax Wanderers)

Ferrazzo scored his second of the season to finish off a lovely flowing movement from the Wanderers on Sunday. Ferrazzo was active throughout the match, contesting 10 duels, winning two fouls and taking a pair of shots on target.

Alberto Zapater (Atlético Ottawa) 

Zapater scored an equalizer for Atlético Ottawa in the eleventh minute of second-half stoppage time to secure a stunning comeback victory on Sunday. He was excellent off the bench completing 34 of 40 passes to help Atleti’s late push.

Steffen Yeates (Pacific FC) 

Yeates has been the creative force in attack for Pacific FC lately, but he turned goalscorer on Saturday with a brilliantly-taken header to open the scoring against Cavalry. He also had four chances created, and won possession seven times.

Tristan Borges  (Forge FC) 

Borges has been outstanding to start the season for Forge and was again involved in everything they did against York on Saturday. He scored their second goal with a stunning curled shot, and played a key part in the build-up to Parra’s third.

Forwards 

Jordan Swibel (Valour FC)

The Australian played hero for Valour in their home opener on Sunday with an outstanding brace. He had five shots overall and led the line incredibly well for the Winnipeg side, with four goals now on the season.

Kwasi Poku (Forge FC) 

Poku again showed his quality while leading the line for Forge. He had two assists on Saturday in the club’s 3-0 win over York United, and completed all eleven of his passes. He also won possession twice in the final third.
