A Night To Remember With The Atleti Family

With the first week  of Training Camp coming to an end, there was no better way to spend the night off then to stop by the iconic Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid to visit some members of the Atleti family.

The visit happened to land on the same night where legendary Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone reached a brand new milestone as the all-time leader in games coached for the club with 613 games, the same number as Ottawa’s area code. Perhaps the stars were aligned for Atlético Ottawa and Atlético Madrid?

Prior to the game, the Atlético Ottawa team got the opportunity to explore the historic Atleti Museum inside of the Metropolitano Stadium. For some of the new players, it was a great way to learn more about the history of Altético de Madrid and why the club is considered so massive.

Our players had the pleasure to sit with Atlético de Madrid executives in the Presidential box during the game to catch all the action.

The game did not disappoint as it was action packed with Atlético Madrid defeating Sevilla 6-1 with goals from Memphis Depay, Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Álvaro Morata.

After the game, the Altlético Madrid players took some time to greet and take photos with our Atlético Ottawa players and staff. Our French-speaking players were especially ecstatic to meet French national team star Antoine Griezmann.

Even after his milestone night, coach Diego Simeone made some time to take a photo with our team.

It was also a mini reunion of sorts for Diego Espejo, Carlos González and a few former Atlético Madrid academy players who are now with the first team.

Overall, the night was a success as the players will now take that experience home and channel that Atleti spirit for when the Canadian Premier League season starts.
