A letter to my Atleti Family from Fernando López

February 8, 2020 was the first time I set foot in Ottawa. It was a Saturday. This was also my first time in Canada. It was a cold, winter night and my first experience being in an environment under 20 degrees. At that moment, I had no idea that such a cold sensation would be the start of one of the warmest experiences of my life.

Ottawa and Canada have been my home since that day. I am a better person and professional thanks to everything I learned, lived and shared with all those involved in our organization over these 5 seasons.

Atlético has established great foundations in this city thanks to the dedication and passion of our fans. The support of our community and the relentless work of all the devoted people that are part of our team. From the players to the staff to all the front office. It’s been incredible to witness. As a result, we have become one of the soccer benchmarks in this country where I foresee a safe and bright future ahead.

I am honoured to have played a small part in the history of Atlético Ottawa. I will be forever grateful for the support and love I have received over all these years. So many emotions, and so many things I could write, but I know as the full time whistle blows, I truly left everything “on the pitch”.

I will hold so many massive memories that will remain deep in my heart. I will cherish this club forever. I leave a piece of me here and trust me when I say, from this day on, I will be your biggest supporter.
