Rubén del Campo’s Top 5️⃣ Goals in 2024

Heading into the final match of the Regular Season, Atlético Ottawa forward Del Campo leads the Canadian Premier League (CPL) goal-scoring charts.

Three other players are looking for a chance to take that top spot, held by Del Campo for the vast majority of the season.

Cavalry FC’s Tobias Warschewski will be hoping to propel his team into second place at Ottawa’s expense, while Brian Wright in York seeks to cap off his best season in the league while Saturday’s opponents Vancouver FC arrive with Alejandro Díaz eyeing both the Golden Boot and a first-ever playoff appearance.

As the tension builds, let’s look back at Del Campo’s top five goals this season:

Oozing with confidence

Oozing confidence, Del Campo scored the only goal of the game away to Pacific FC to register his fourth of the season. One touch into space and a powerful shot beyond the keeper and into the net off the far post. Del Campo has truly arrived.

Statement against the defending champions

Atlético, like many teams, struggled against defending champions Forge FC in the past couple of seasons.

In a 3-0 victory over the Hamilton-based team at TD Place, Del Campo was instrumental throughout and capped off a fine performance in the 82nd minute.

The early season form dried up for Del Campo and his teammates but Atlético remained resilient. Despite falling behind at home to Valour, they ‘never said die’ and Del Campo ensured points were shared at TD Place, and even almost won it.

The self-assist

In a rampant victory away to this weekend’s opponents, Vancouver FC, Rubén del Campo sought to pump up his numbers in an unusual way – a self-assist.

The Swiss striker smashed the ball against the post and was quickest to react, tapping in the rebound as Atleti won 3-0.

Breaking the Atleti record

Del Campo’s latest strike put us ahead in Calgary, a match in which Ottawa deserved three points but had to settle for one.

This goal also broke an Atleti record for most goals scored in a single season (all comps) by an Ottawa player. Del Campo is now only one goal away from setting a new club record in the league.
