The 2023 Canadian Premier League Season is less than a month away and Atlético Ottawa kicks off their warm-weather preseason with Training Camp in Mexico for the first-time ever. Follow along on this blog series as we keep you up to date and take you behind the scenes during this important window of time in Mexico.
The team left Ottawa on March 12th and arrived in Queretaro, Mexico a little after midnight on March 13th. After a long travel day, the team started their first morning with a recovery session, followed by a light practice on the pitch. Then the team enjoyed a hearty lunch with some local Mexican flavour and then rested until the evening training session began. In the early stages of pre-season, Coach Carlos González is focused on building on a strong foundation that is crucial for the team’s success. We caught up with the gaffer, and chatted with him about how everything is going so far. Catch the full interview below!
In other news, Atlético de San Luis U23 goalkeeper has joined the team to train as the team’s 3rd keeper during our time here in Mexico. It’s nice seeing the Atleti connection working in this particular way.
Friday only included one training session in the morning as the players were given time to rest after lunch. The team has quite a condensed schedule in the following days as the team will be partaking in training matches against LIGA MX sides Querétaro FC on Saturday March 16th, and then against our Atleti brothers Atlético San Luis on Monday.
